Who they are, where they came from

Ami Bera is a physician and Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing California's 6th congressional district in Sacramento County. He has served in that role since January 3, 2013. In Congress, Bera has sponsored legislation on domestic health care access, including the Easy Enrollment in Health Care Act (HR.3947) and the HERO Act (HR.4274, HR.1902). He has also sponsored measures addressing Alzheimer's disease research coordination (HR.3674) and foreign policy matters, including a resolution reaffirming U.S. commitment to Taiwan (HRES.1127) and a resolution marking the anniversary of the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre (HRES.470). On final passage votes, he voted in favor of the Building Chips in America Act of 2023 (S.2228), which became law, and voted in favor of HJRES.98; both votes were recorded against the majority of his party.
