Who they are, where they came from

Chris Pappas represents New Hampshire's 1st congressional district and has served in that role since January 2019. Before his election to Congress, Pappas served on the New Hampshire Executive Council from 2013 to 2019. He is a member of the Democratic Party. In the House, Pappas has sponsored legislation across several areas. He sponsored two bills that became law designating U.S. Postal Service facilities in New Hampshire (HR.1098, HR.8868). On veterans' issues, he has sponsored the GUARD VA Benefits Act in multiple congresses, a bill directed at protecting VA benefits for National Guard members (HR.1139, HR.1732). He has also sponsored the LGBTQ+ Panic Defense Prohibition Act in successive congresses (HR.4432, HR.4197), the DISCLOSE Act of 2026 addressing campaign finance disclosure (HR.7802), and the United States-Israel Health Technologies Cooperation Act (HR.4076). On environmental matters, he has introduced legislation related to PFAS contamination, including the No Taxation on PFAS Remediation Act (HR.6669) and the PFAS Research and Development Reauthorization Act (HR.6667). Additional sponsored bills include the Stop Crimes Against Children Act (HR.6887), the Dark Web Interdiction Act (HR.6104), the Veterans' Burial Improvement Act (HR.6814), the Bring Our Heroes Home Act (HR.6723), the BUILD Act (HR.2979), and the National ACERT Grant Program Authorization Act (HR.3601). Pappas voted yes on the Building Chips in America Act (S.2228), which became law, crossing his party's majority position on that vote.
