Cindy Hyde-Smith serves as the junior United States Senator from Mississippi, a position she has held since April 9, 2018. A member of the Republican Party, she previously served as Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce from 2012 to 2018, and before that represented Mississippi in the State Senate from 2000 to 2012. In the U.S. Senate, she has sponsored legislation addressing rural health infrastructure (S.1800), biomedical research policy (S.987, S.2005), Gulf Coast environmental restoration (S.1882), firearm owner privacy (S.3916), forestry pest response (S.2872), and maternal and infant health (S.3697).
