Cory Anthony Booker is a lawyer and politician serving as a United States Senator from New Jersey, a seat he has held since October 2013. He is the first African-American U.S. senator from New Jersey. Before his Senate tenure, Booker served as the 38th mayor of Newark from 2006 to 2013, and prior to that represented the Central Ward on the Newark Municipal Council from 1998 to 2002. In the Senate, Booker has sponsored legislation across a wide range of policy areas.
