Newhouse has spent years focused on a few core fights. Each is tied to bills actually introduced or votes actually cast.
01
Restricting foreign adversary purchase of U.S. farmlandNewhouse has repeatedly sponsored legislation to prohibit entities connected to the People's Republic of China from acquiring American agricultural land. He introduced the No American Land for Communist China Act in multiple sessions (H.R.1575, H.R.8693) and the Protecting American Agriculture from Foreign Adversaries Act in successive Congresses (H.R.1576, H.R.9456), as well as the Prohibition of Agricultural Land for the People's Republic of China Act (H.R.809). Each bill was referred to committee and drew substantial cosponsor support.
02
Honoring Gold Star Families through formal recognitionNewhouse sponsored House resolutions in consecutive years designating a week each September as Gold Star Families Week (H.RES.720, H.RES.744, H.RES.1447). Each resolution attracted broad cosponsor support across multiple Congresses, reflecting sustained engagement with this commemorative issue.
03
Countering illicit synthetic narcotics through federal coordinationNewhouse sponsored the Joint Task Force to Counter Illicit Synthetic Narcotics Act of 2025 (H.R.2024), which would establish a dedicated interagency task force focused on combating illicit synthetic drug trafficking. The bill was reintroduced in the current Congress and referred to committee.
04
Expanding agricultural export opportunities for U.S. producersNewhouse sponsored the Agriculture Export Promotion Act of 2025 (H.R.1086), a reintroduced measure aimed at expanding market access and promotional programs for American agricultural exports. The bill was referred to committee. Given Newhouse's district encompasses a significant portion of Washington State's agricultural production, export policy has been a recurring area of legislative attention.
05
Federal employee in-person work location requirementsNewhouse sponsored the Federal Employee Return to Work Act (H.R.236), a reintroduced bill that would require federal employees to return to in-person work at their official duty stations. The legislation was referred to committee in the current Congress.
