Debbie Dingell represents Michigan's 6th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives, a seat she has held since January 2015. A member of the Democratic Party, she succeeded her late husband, John Dingell, who served as the longest-serving member of Congress in U.S. history. Her legislative work spans environmental protection, health care access, and Great Lakes conservation. She has sponsored the PFAS Alternatives Act in multiple congresses to address per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance contamination (H.R.3184, H.R.4769), and has introduced legislation to expand access to breast cancer diagnostic services (H.R.3851, H.R.3037). She has also sponsored bills addressing Medicaid and CHIP coverage stability (H.R.4028), Medicare coverage of hearing aids (H.R.500), and telehealth access (H.R.6296). Her health care provider portfolio includes the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Reauthorization Act (H.R.929), which addresses mental health resources for medical professionals. On veterans' issues, she has sponsored bills related to emergency care reimbursement (H.R.5261), peer review neutrality at the Department of Veterans Affairs (H.R.6519), and research into toxic exposure for descendants of veterans (H.R.6005).
