Who they are, where they came from

Derek Truyen Tran serves as the U.S. Representative for California's 45th congressional district, having taken office on January 3, 2025. He is a member of the Democratic Party and, according to biographical records, is the third Vietnamese American elected to Congress and the first to represent California. Before entering Congress, Tran worked as a lawyer. His election to California's 45th district marks his first federal office. In the 119th Congress, Tran sponsored H.R.1637, the Protect Veteran Jobs Act, which attracted between 50 and 99 cosponsors and was referred to committee.
