Elena Kagan serves as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, having been confirmed to that seat on August 7, 2010. She was nominated by President Barack Obama and is the fourth woman to serve on the Court. Before joining the Court, Kagan had a career that spanned legal academia and federal executive service. She served as Solicitor General of the United States, the first woman to hold that position, and prior to that served as Dean of Harvard Law School. Her academic career included faculty positions focused on administrative and constitutional law. Kagan received her undergraduate degree from Princeton University, studied at Worcester College, Oxford, and earned her J.D. from Harvard Law School.
