Who they are, where they came from

Eric Sorensen represents Illinois's 17th congressional district, a seat he has held since January 3, 2023. The district spans western and central Illinois, including Moline, Rock Island, the Illinois side of the Quad Cities, and portions of Peoria and Rockford. Before entering elected office, Sorensen worked as a meteorologist. A member of the Democratic Party, he is the first openly gay member of Congress from Illinois. In the 118th Congress, his legislative activity has included sponsoring bills related to defense manufacturing, water assistance, and veterans' benefits, as well as casting votes on semiconductor supply chain legislation (S.2228) and election security (H.R.8314).
