Who they are, where they came from
Gary C. Peters serves as the senior United States Senator from Michigan, a seat he has held since January 2015. A member of the Democratic Party, Peters previously represented Michigan's 14th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2009 to 2015, a district that encompassed the eastern half of Detroit, the Grosse Pointes, Hamtramck, Southfield, and Pontiac. He is also a lawyer and former naval officer.
