Who they are, where they came from

Gregory W. Meeks has represented New York's 5th Congressional District as a U.S. Representative since 1998. A lawyer by training and a member of the Democratic Party, he serves on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, where he chaired the committee from 2021 to 2023 and currently serves as ranking member. He also chairs the Queens County Democratic Party. His legislative activity reflects sustained engagement with U.S. foreign policy, including sponsorship of bills addressing Haiti (HR.2643), Sudan (HR.1939), Russia (HR.475, HR.476), and Indo-Pacific partnerships (HR.1263).
