Who they are, where they came from

Hakeem S. Jeffries represents New York's 8th congressional district and has served in that seat since January 3, 2013, currently in his seventh term. Since January 2023, he has held the position of House Minority Leader and leads the House Democratic Caucus, making him the highest-ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives. Before his congressional service, Jeffries served three terms in the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. He is an attorney by training. His district encompasses portions of Brooklyn and Queens in New York City.
