Who they are, where they came from
Jamie Raskin represents Maryland's 8th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives, a seat he has held since January 2017. The district covers much of Montgomery County and a portion of Prince George's County following redistricting in 2022; prior to that change it extended from suburban Montgomery County northwest through rural Frederick County to the Pennsylvania border. Before his election to Congress, Raskin served in the Maryland State Senate from 2007 to 2016. He is an attorney and law professor by training.
