Who they are, where they came from

Jared William Huffman is a lawyer and politician serving as the U.S. Representative for California's 2nd congressional district, a seat he has held since January 2013. His district spans the North Coast of California from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Oregon border. Before his election to Congress, Huffman served in the California State Assembly representing the 6th district from 2006 to 2012, where he chaired both the Assembly Water, Parks & Wildlife Committee and the Assembly Environmental Caucus. He was elected to Congress in 2012 with more than 70% of the vote, defeating Republican nominee Dan Roberts. In Congress, Huffman has sponsored legislation across coastal and ocean protection, wildlife conservation, public lands, water resources, and education funding. His sponsored bills include the Coastal Habitat Conservation Act of 2023 (HR.2950), which was enacted into law, and a measure extending authority to collect Shasta-Trinity Marina fees (HR.3324), also enacted. He has introduced multiple iterations of the Arctic Refuge Protection Act (HR.3067, HR.724), the IDEA Full Funding Act (HR.2598, HR.4519), the Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act of 2023 (HR.6053), and the West Coast Ocean Protection Act of 2025 (HR.2849), among others. His legislative portfolio also includes measures addressing migratory birds (HR.3188), kelp ecosystems (HR.1124), sustainable fisheries (HR.3718), wildfire resilience (HR.582), and federal recognition of the Nor Rel Muk Wintu Nation (HR.619).
