Who they are, where they came from
Jeanne Shaheen serves as the senior United States Senator from New Hampshire, a seat she has held since January 2009. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the 78th Governor of New Hampshire from 1997 to 2003 and worked as an educator earlier in her career. She is the first woman in American history to be elected both a state governor and a U.S. senator, and was the first woman elected governor of New Hampshire.
