Who they are, where they came from

Jefferson H. Van Drew represents New Jersey's 2nd congressional district and has served in that seat since January 3, 2019. He was elected to the House as a Democrat and joined the Republican Party in 2020. In the current Congress, Van Drew has sponsored bills addressing immigration enforcement (HR.594, HR.489), veterans' benefits (HR.8194, HR.467), oral and dental health access (HR.1218, HR.1219, HR.1758), patient rights (HR.1358), trucking labor standards (HR.1962), Social Security administration (HR.1547), and tick-borne allergy awareness (HR.1178). He also sponsored two enacted postal facility designation bills (HR.7606, HR.7607). On appropriations, Van Drew voted against multiple continuing resolutions and omnibus extensions that became law, including HR.5860, HR.2872, HR.7463, HR.6363, and HR.9747, as well as the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024 (HR.2670) and the Small Business Innovation and Economic Security Act (S.3971), each time voting against the majority of his party.
