Who they are, where they came from

Jerry Moran is the senior United States Senator from Kansas, a seat he has held since January 2011. A member of the Republican Party, Moran previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives representing Kansas's 1st congressional district. He served as chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee during the 113th Congress, during which Republicans gained a Senate majority following the 2014 elections, their first since 2006. Moran holds a law degree and has maintained a consistent focus on veterans' affairs, agricultural policy, and rural community issues throughout his congressional tenure. His legislative record includes sponsored bills that were enacted into law, among them the Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act (S.141), the Veterans' Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2025 (S.2392), and a bill designating a Department of Veterans Affairs outpatient clinic (S.3249). He has also sponsored legislation addressing veterans' employment and housing (S.3988), Guard and Reserve education benefits parity (S.649), coordinated care for senior veterans and wounded warriors (S.506), and VA accountability (S.124).
