U.S. Representative for Virginia
John J. McGuire III represents Virginia's 5th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives, having taken office on January 3, 2025. Before his federal service, McGuire served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2018 to 2024 and briefly in the Virginia Senate in 2024. Prior to his political career, he served as a United States Navy SEAL and has been active in business. In the 119th Congress, McGuire introduced an amendment (HAMDT.120) that was agreed to by voice vote. He also cast a vote against final passage of H.R.2215, the Salem Maritime National Historical Park Redesignation and Boundary Study Act, a position at variance with the majority of his party's members on that roll call.
