Who they are, where they came from
Jonathan L. Jackson represents Illinois's 1st congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives, having taken office on January 3, 2023. A member of the Democratic Party, he is the son of Rev. Jesse Jackson and previously served as national spokesman for the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition. His prior career also included work as a financial analyst and as a partner in River North Sales and Service, a beer distributorship based in Chicago. In the House, he has sponsored the Marshall 'Major' Taylor Congressional Gold Medal Act (H.R.4083, H.R.6672), legislation to award a posthumous congressional gold medal to the pioneering cyclist. He has also sponsored the JUST Act of 2025 (H.R.3685) and the Sanction Sea Pirates Act of 2025 (H.R.1998), both currently in committee. On final passage votes, he voted against H.R.2670, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024, and against H.R.3935, the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024.
