Who they are, where they came from

Josh Gottheimer represents New Jersey's 5th congressional district, a seat he has held since January 2017. The district spans the northern border of the state, running from the densely populated metropolitan suburbs of Bergen County northwest through exurban and rural areas of northern Passaic and Sussex Counties. Gottheimer is an attorney, writer, and public policy adviser by background. In the House, Gottheimer has sponsored legislation across several policy areas. On public safety, he introduced the HEAL Act (HR.603) and the Invest to Protect Act (HR.3184). On antisemitism and Holocaust remembrance, he sponsored the Holocaust Education and Antisemitism Lessons Act (HR.768), two resolutions condemning the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks (HRES.795, HRES.1537), and the October 7 Remembrance Education Act (HR.5714). On broadcast infrastructure, he introduced the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act of 2023 (HR.3413), which drew more than 200 cosponsors. He has also sponsored the Freedom to Decide Act (HCONRES.33), the ALYSSA Act (HR.1524) addressing school safety, Cameron's Law (HR.1414), Miranda's Law (HR.7429), Leo's Law (HR.7693), the LITTLE Act (HR.1067), the SOS Act (HR.1470), the ETA Act (HR.5579), the Bunker Buster Act (HR.4281), the Elder Pride Protection Act (HR.3811), the Tick Identification Pilot Program Act (HR.4979), a resolution recognizing Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (HRES.1079), and a bill addressing domiciliary facilities for veterans (HR.1413).
