Maggie Hassan (Margaret Wood Hassan) is an attorney and politician serving as the junior United States Senator from New Hampshire since January 3, 2017. She is a member of the Democratic Party. Prior to her Senate service, Hassan served as the 81st Governor of New Hampshire from 2013 to 2017. In the Senate, her sponsored legislation spans healthcare access, education, rural infrastructure, and national security. On healthcare, she has sponsored bills addressing obstetric care in rural areas (S.380), contraception coverage (S.3560), dental insurance access (S.1164), and hospital flexibility in rural communities (S.3250).
