Mary Gay Scanlon is an attorney and member of the U.S. House of Representatives serving Pennsylvania's 5th congressional district, which encompasses Delaware County west of Philadelphia, a southwestern portion of Philadelphia, and portions of Chester and Montgomery counties. She has held the seat since January 3, 2019. Scanlon was elected on November 6, 2018, winning both a special election for the then-existing 7th congressional district — to complete the term of predecessor Pat Meehan — and a regular election for a full term in the newly drawn 5th district. She was sworn in to represent the 7th district on November 13, 2018, before transferring to the 5th on January 3, 2019. In the 119th Congress, her sponsored legislation includes measures addressing firearms sales regulations (H.R.4261), corporate crime recordkeeping (H.R.4724), inaugural fund disclosures (H.R.535), and support programs for foster youth (H.R.4769).
