Who they are, where they came from

Mike Bost represents Illinois's 12th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives, a seat he has held since January 2015. Before his election to Congress, Bost served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1995 to 2015, representing the 115th district. Prior to holding elected office, he worked as a firefighter. In Congress, Bost has sponsored legislation addressing veterans' health care access, including the VA Emergency Transportation Access Act (H.R.5530) and the Restore VA Accountability Act of 2025 (H.R.472). He sponsored the Fiscal Year 2024 Veterans Affairs Major Medical Facility Authorization Act (H.R.6324), which was enacted into law. His legislative record also includes the Truck Parking Safety Improvement Act (H.R.1659), the Fighting Trade Cheats Act of 2025 (H.R.1284), and the Shawnee TRAILS Act (H.R.3487). On appropriations votes, Bost voted against his party on multiple continuing resolutions and funding measures, including H.R.7463, H.R.2872, H.R.6363, H.R.9747, and H.R.5860, each of which became law. He also voted against final passage of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024 (H.R.2670).
