Addison Mitchell McConnell III serves as the senior United States Senator from Kentucky, a seat he has held since January 3, 1985. He is in his seventh Senate term and is the longest-serving senator in Kentucky history. McConnell served as leader of the Senate Republican Conference from 2007 to 2025, including two stints as minority leader and a period as majority leader from 2015 to 2021, making him the longest-serving Senate party leader in U.S. history.
