Who they are, where they came from

Addison Mitchell McConnell III serves as the senior United States Senator from Kentucky, a seat he has held since January 3, 1985. He is in his seventh Senate term and is the longest-serving senator in Kentucky history. McConnell served as leader of the Senate Republican Conference from 2007 to 2025, including two stints as minority leader and a period as majority leader from 2015 to 2021, making him the longest-serving Senate party leader in U.S. history. His sponsored legislation in the current Congress includes the CAREER Act of 2025 (S.500), the Mammoth Cave National Park Boundary Adjustment Act of 2025 (S.1674), and the Federal Prisons Accountability Act of 2025 (S.698). He also voted against his party on three high-profile confirmation votes decided by narrow margins (PN.11-7, PN.11-8, PN.11-16).
