Who they are, where they came from

Nancy Ruth Mace represents South Carolina's 1st congressional district and has served in that role since January 3, 2021. She is a member of the Republican Party. Prior to her election to Congress, she served in the South Carolina General Assembly from 2018 to 2020. In the House, Mace has sponsored legislation addressing sexual violence prevention, including Violet's Law (HR.1465, HR.3246), which drew between 50 and 199 cosponsors across multiple congressional sessions, and the Rape Shield Enhancement Act of 2025 (HR.3596). She has also sponsored the Stop VOYEURS Act of 2025 (HR.1203), the Prison Rape Prevention Act of 2025 (HR.1015), and the Safe Shelters Act of 2025 (HR.1205), each addressing aspects of personal safety and survivor protections. Additional sponsored legislation includes the Preventing Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act (HR.30), the Stop the Invasion of Women's Spaces Act (HR.1017), the Protecting Women's Private Spaces Act (HR.1016), Tyler's Law (HR.4340), and the VA Flood Preparedness Act (HR.4188). On appropriations, Mace voted against her party on multiple continuing resolution measures that became law, including HR.5860, HR.2872, HR.6363, HR.9747, HR.10545, and HR.7463. She also voted against HR.82, the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023, and against HR.10545, the American Relief Act, 2025, both of which became law.
