Who they are, where they came from

Roger F. Wicker serves as the senior United States Senator from Mississippi, a seat he has held since December 2007. A member of the Republican Party, Wicker is an attorney and former Air Force officer. Before his Senate service, he was a Mississippi State Senator from 1988 to 1995 and represented Mississippi's 1st congressional district in the U.S. House from 1995 to 2007. In the Senate, Wicker has sponsored legislation across transportation security, infrastructure financing, broadband access, and public health. He sponsored the Transportation Security Screening Modernization Act of 2024 (S.3959), which was enacted into law, and a bill to waive the 60-day notice requirement for posthumous honorary military promotions (S.4138), also enacted. He has introduced the American Infrastructure Bonds Act (S.1481, S.1480) across multiple Congresses to create financing mechanisms for infrastructure investment, and the PLAN for Broadband Act (S.323) to expand broadband planning requirements. He has also sponsored the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act (S.186), the Amateur Radio Emergency Preparedness Act (S.459), and a resolution supporting the goals and ideals of World Malaria Day (SRES.173). Amendments he introduced were agreed to in the Senate (SAMDT.1055, SAMDT.3748).
