Who they are, where they came from
Sanford D. Bishop Jr. is a lawyer and politician serving as the U.S. representative for Georgia's 2nd congressional district, a position he has held since January 1993. His district encompasses southwestern Georgia, including Albany, Thomasville, and portions of Columbus and Macon. Following the death of Representative John Lewis, Bishop became the dean of Georgia's congressional delegation. He is a member of the Blue Dog Coalition. In the 118th Congress, Bishop sponsored the Protecting Our Produce Act (HR.7762), addressing agricultural food safety, and the Heirs Education and Investment to Resolve Succession of Property Act (HR.7761), which relates to heir property rights.
