Who they are, where they came from

Sarah McBride serves as the U.S. Representative for Delaware's at-large congressional district, having taken office on January 3, 2025. She is the first openly transgender member of the United States Congress and holds the distinction of being the nation's highest ranking openly transgender elected official. Before her election to the House, McBride served in the Delaware State Senate from 2021 to 2025, representing the 1st senate district. Prior to her state legislative career, she served as national press secretary of the Human Rights Campaign from 2016 to 2021. McBride has sponsored H.R.6151, the Global Respect Act, in the current Congress.
