Who they are, where they came from

Summer Lee represents Pennsylvania's 12th congressional district, which encompasses the majority of Pittsburgh and the eastern suburbs, including parts of Westmoreland County. She has served in this role since January 3, 2023. A member of the Democratic Party, Lee became the first Black woman to represent Pennsylvania in Congress following her victory in the 2022 primary and general elections. Her sponsored legislation in the 118th and 119th Congresses spans veterans' services (HR.4955), civil rights (HR.4373, HR.3815), algorithmic accountability (HR.7110), and tenant legal protections (HR.4761). She voted against final passage of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024 (HR.2670) and against the Recruit and Retain Act (S.546), both of which became law.
