01 · Background

Who they are, where they came from

Sydney Kai Kamlager-Dove represents California's 37th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives, a seat she has held since January 2023. Before entering federal office, she served in the California State Senate, where she represented the 30th district, and in the California State Assembly. She also served as a trustee for the Los Angeles Community College District. Her sponsored legislation includes measures addressing foster care systems (HRES.390, HR.5583), U.S. engagement with the African diaspora (HR.784), youth leadership exchange programs in Africa (HR.4332), arts education equity (HR.5399), and the rights of individuals and families affected by in-custody deaths and injuries (HR.2718). She voted against final passage of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024 (HR.2670), a vote that placed her outside her party's majority position on that measure.
